23 reviews of Alta Lake State Park "We stayed at the Alta Lake State Park campground this past weekend for one night during our trip around the North Cascades Highway Loop. We arrived here on Saturday evening to find the place hopping with beach goers and and groups bbqing. We quickly realized this was going to be a rowdy campground as there were people and cars everywhere.

This short trail gains a quick 700 feet in under a mile on reasonably good tread. The terrain is steep though and some cutting of switchbacks has led to erosion problems near the top.

There are only about 30 spaces for RV's but more tent spaces. It is very quiet and the lawns are well-maintained as are the bathrooms.

The state park on the lake's northern side provides excellent shoreline access to Alta Lake. Additionally, the park boasts two boat launches and camping for anglers wishing to make a weekend of it. Fishing at Alta Lake is managed seasonally. It opens on the fourth Saturday in April, staying open through Halloween.
